Protect Pekin - No Data Centers Protect Pekin Back to Home

Central Illinois Data Center Opposition

A grassroots nonprofit founded by residents of Tazewell County to oppose the Pekin Data Center and similar hyperscale data center projects in Central Illinois.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to share factual information about the risks of hyperscale data centers, support residents in voicing their concerns, and inform community leaders of those concerns in order to preserve the long-term interests of our communities.

Taking action for our community against the dangers of hyperscale data centers.

Who We Are

We are your neighbors - homeowners, parents, business owners, and taxpayers - who believe our community deserves full transparency and careful consideration before a project of this scale moves forward. Like many of you, we are concerned about the long-term impacts to our energy grid, water resources, natural environment, property values, and quality of life.

CIDCO was created under Illinois law to provide structure, transparency, and strategic leadership to a growing grassroots movement. What began as conversations between concerned residents has become an organized effort to ensure our community's voice is heard. Our bipartisan leadership team is made up of residents directly impacted by the proposed development.

What We've Accomplished

Formed a bipartisan leadership team of residents directly impacted by the proposed development.

Developed and circulated an online petition to provide Pekin City Council members with documented citizen feedback.

Designed and distributed yard signs, informational pamphlets, and community outreach materials. Created ProtectPekin.org to share relevant research and communicate important events.

Canvassing around Pekin to distribute info pamphlets, with plans to expand to surrounding communities with a postcard campaign and local advertising.

Engaged community leaders and media outlets to provide research-based information about large-scale data center impacts.

What's Next

Next steps include continued neighborhood canvassing around Pekin and the surrounding areas, a regional postcard campaign to inform residents and businesses of potential impacts to energy and water infrastructure, expanded public awareness efforts through local publications and advertising, and consultation with legal experts.

While the immediate focus remains the Pekin proposal, CIDCO plans to monitor and respond to similar data center projects throughout Central Illinois. Our goal is not only to address the current proposal, but to ensure responsible decision-making for the future of our region.

Support Our Mission

Many of these efforts require financial resources and professional expertise beyond what volunteers can provide individually. Establishing CIDCO as a nonprofit allows us to responsibly raise funds, maintain transparent financial reporting, and strategically deploy resources on behalf of local residents and businesses.
